Travel Guide to Amsterdam
Amsterdam is obviously the perfect destination for a romantic weekend away. The countless canals, bridges and traditional buildings create a unique atmosphere. Are you planning to book a romantic weekend in Amsterdam with your loved one? Let me list all of my romantic recommendations here, so you can start planning a weekend you will never forget!
Amsterdam is the perfect city to discover on your own. The centre is quite compact and you can move from one place to the next within a short space of time. Do you want the freedom to plan your day at your own place? Then I advise you to rent a bicycle. Cycle paths can be found throughout the city and you will probably reach your destination more quickly by bike than by car or public transport! Is cycling through Amsterdam’s busy traffic not for you? Then a boat trip might be a better idea. Travel along the Amsterdam canals and listen to the great and varied background information about this wonderful city. All boats are covered, so even if it rains you can still have a great day out!
Eat and Drink
Whether it is Argentinean, Indian, Thai or typical Dutch fare you are after, look no further. Amsterdam has over a thousand restaurants catering for the tastes, needs and budgets of even the most discerning tourist or Amsterdammer. Dining in this diverse and vibrant city can range from fast food to haute cuisine, with every nation faithfully represented. The city boasts stylish and top quality restaurants, as well as traditional Amsterdam cafés, Dutch pancake houses, steakhouses and seafood outlets – the list is simply endless. You will no doubt be leaving Amsterdam saying “lekker” (Dutch for ‘delicious’)!
The weather could be an issue during your visit to Amsterdam. In the Netherlands you should never assume that the weather will be wonderful, even in the summer. Keep this in mind when you plan your stay. Make sure you always have an umbrella in your bag so that you’re always prepared for a sudden, unexpected shower.
Flights to Amsterdam airport link to an extensive network of direct bus lines connecting it to the surrounding towns and cities. These lines operate with high frequency from early morning until late evening. If you prefer to travel by train, Schiphol station is directly below the airport.
